Mad at eBay?
Going on strike?
Planning to boycott?

Well, things don't seem too well organized at the moment but perhaps, this time, eBay's disregard for it's customers will result in some meaningful response. The ambition of eBay.sellers-union is to serve as a caucus for eBay members interested in the formation of a legitimate organization of users to deal with eBay management.

eBay claims that over a million people earn part or all of their income selling on the site. After ten years of management by insiders interested only in their stock options and personal ambitions, the site is in decline. It is time for these sellers, the only people with a true "sweat equity" in the site to insist on a place at the eBay management table.

Q.What can I expect if I subscribe to the group?
A. Not much right away. For the moment, until there is sufficent interest, you will receive an email at least monthly describing any developments of interest to the group plus links to new sites, boards and news articles for that month. The monthly mailing will also include a synopsis of user suggestions and links to any articles they have published. Our group is more of a registry than a discussion, but you will receive information on preparing and submitting article or proposals for inclusion in the regular newsletter.

Q.Why Google Groups? What about privacy?
A. Google was chosen over a web based roster entirely due to privacy concerns and scalability. You will divulge your name and email address only to Google and that information will not be visible to other members or kept on a local database which might be lost or hacked. Google maintains excellent privacy policies and very functional spam filtering. More information about privacy on Google Groups can be found here.

Q. What about the Boycott(s)?
A. The current eBay boycotts have been quite effective in drawing attention to the disparities that have evolved between eBay, the corporate entity, and eBay, the selling venue. Naturally we support any lawful action that might result in positive change but the philosophy here is more toward large scale participation organized to interact with eBay policy makers with a spirit of mutual respect.

While there is no call to action at the present, if our alliance were to grow to meaningful numbers, any actions taken would come only after careful consideration and debate as a group and would target a specific agenda defined by the member majority.

Q. Who runs this site? Is this a "real" Union?
A.eBay.sellers-union.org is operated by a small (for now) group of active online sellers. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

There is not, to our knowlege, a legally defined "Union" of either eBay direct employees or users. For our purposes, the word is used interchangably with association, organization or alliance only to describe a group of people with common goals. This site is here to facilitate a gathering place for sellers who wish to join with others to decide the type of structure needed, then organize and create a formal entity of the appropriate type.

You will notice there is no advertising or promotion, and none is planned.
